Known Contraindications

• • Excess heat patterns (Huang Qi and warm herbs may aggravate)
• • Active menstrual bleeding (blood-activating herbs)
• • Confirmed pregnancy (Chuan Xiong and blood movers)
• • Discontinue upon confirmed pregnancy
• • Not a substitute for treatment of structural infertility causes
• • Deep puncture wounds (may seal in infection)
• • Heavily exudating wounds (use drying treatment first)
• • Sesame allergy
• • Do not apply to eyes or mucous membranes
• • Jitsu-Sho (excess pattern) with heat signs
• • Blood excess with Oketsu (use Keishi-Bukuryo-Gan instead for strong Oketsu)
• • No major contraindications — one of the safest Kampo formulas; widely used during pregnancy in Japan under physician supervision
• • Excessive menstrual bleeding (blood-activating action may worsen)
• • Diarrhea with Spleen deficiency (moistening nature)
• • Early pregnancy (blood-moving may disturb fetus)
